About Building Detection

Explains the concept of building detection in LINEAR Building from a connected CAD program.

You can specify which data is transferred from the connected CAD program to LINEAR Building during building detection. You can transfer all the building data available in the CAD program or restrict the building detection to the building structure without enveloping surfaces. If required, you can use the synchronization settings in the configuration of LINEAR Building to control exactly which LINEAR parameters are transferred before the data is detected.

When transferring the building structure without enveloping surfaces, only the rooms and the building topology are transferred. No room components such as walls, windows and doors are transferred to LINEAR Building. Based on this data, you can, for example, determine approximate heating loads.

When transferring the complete building structure with all building data, all information required for the calculation of energy demand is transferred from the connected CAD program to LINEAR Building. If the architectural model is prepared accordingly, even complex wall structures with all thermal properties are detected. If you created load profiles, entered ventilation data or created building parts, this information can also be entered and taken into account in the calculations.

Once a building has been detected, you can change the values of LINEAR parameters in LINEAR Building or add parameters and write them back to a connected CAD program. The prerequisite for updating these LINEAR parameters in Revit is that they are listed on the first position in the Revit parameter manager.
