Changing a Symbol Assignment

Shows step-by-step how to change an existing symbol assignment in a scheme.

Before you begin

You want to change the symbol of a component in an existing scheme.

Requirements:

You have created at least one scheme and opened it as the current view.

Navigate to:

Project tab ➤ Disciplin ➤ Workflow: Scheme ➤ Construction tab

Applies to the Scheme workflow.

Procedure

  1. Click Change symbol < and then select the desired symbol in the opened scheme.
    The dialog Select symbol opens.
  2. Select the new symbol and confirm your selection by clicking OK.
    A query regarding the scope of the change appears.
  3. Click to decide whether you want to change a Single element, All elements of the family type or All elements of the family.

Results

The assignment of the symbol has been changed for all selected instances and remains the same for future schemes of this project.

What to do next

In case of significant geometrical differences between the old and the newly assigned symbol, the scheme should be derived from the model again if necessary to avoid manual rework.
