About the Initial Setup of a Softlock
Get information about the initial setup of a softlock.
Unlike HASP SRM dongles, softlocks are virtual keys that are installed on the license servers. Softlocks are always written specifically to the hardware you are using. For this reason, it is not possible, for example, in the case of a hardware failure, to switch to another hardware without greater effort. In addition, softlocks can lock themselves even with small changes to the hardware or in the settings of the virtual environment to ensure protection against multiple use. Once a softlock is locked, licenses can no longer be used until the problem is resolved by resetting the softlock with new licenses. For these reasons, we strongly advise against using a softlock for network licenses.
Since the softlocks are specially configured for the hardware used, a fingerprint (.c2v license file) of your future license server is required LINEAR in advance to create your softlock. After we have received your fingerprint, we will send you your .linlic license file by e-mail (licensing@linear.de). Below you will learn how to create a fingerprint of your license server and how to install the softlock using the .linlic license file sent to you. You can install your softlock either automatically or manually on your server. Both ways are explained on the following pages.
