Assigning Simultaneities via Building Type

A step-by-step instruction on how to assign a different building type to individual sections of a potable water pipe network to change simultaneity.

Before you begin

Part of the building is used differently from the rest of the building. Therefore, different simultaneities, which can be assigned via building type, are required

Requirements:

  • The pipe network is closed an can be calculated.

  • The pipe network is detected.

Navigate to:

Project tabDiscipline Potable waterAnalyse tab

Initial situation:

Within a school building there is also a caretaker's apartment. For this reason, different simultaneity is required for the apartment than for the school area. The caretaker’s apartment in the ground floor needs the building type Residential building and the school in the upper floor needs the building type Special building.

Procedure

  1. Click Settings.

    The Settings dialog opens.

  2. From the drop-down list, select the building type Residential building and close the dialog with OK.

The building type Residential building is assigned to the entire pipe network.

  3. Click Calculation.

The Potable water network dialog opens.

  4. Click Peak flow rate....

The Peak flow rate and simultaneity dialog opens.

  5. Click on Search for section part.
  6. In your model, select the section part from which the new building type with different simultaneities is to be assigned. In this example, the cold water pipe in the rising pipe between the first and the upper floor is selected.

The dialog shows the properties of the selected section part.

  7. Select Special building for the selected section part.

The dialog for setting simultaneity opens.

  8. Change the simultaneity, if necessary. In this case, simultaneity stays at 100 %.
  9. Change the project settings to Per partial volume flow rate.
  10. Close the dialog with OK.

The simultaneity is changed for all following section parts up to the last tapping point.

The building type Special building is applied up to the network starting point.

  11. Click Show building type to check the assignment of the building type.

In the upper floor, the building type Special building is assigned (green). The preset building type Residential building (yellow) remains unchanged for the ground floor. A mixed form of Residential building and Special building (red) is found in the basement, where pipes of both building types merge.

  12. Pressing Enter brings you back to the dialog.

Results

The building types and associated simultaneities are assigned. Use the function Show simultaneity to view the result.

The simultaneity in the upper floor is at 100 % for all pipes. The simultaneity in the ground floor is different due to the building type Residential building. In the connection pipes directly at the consumer, simultaneity naturally always remains at 100% so that the consumer receives the required flow rate.
