About the Portions of Cooling Load
Explains the concept of the portions of cooling load.
Dry and humid cooling load
The dry cooling load is the convection energy that must be provided to cool the building or a room to the desired air temperature.
If air is cooled, its humidity content is changed. The moist cooling load is the energy needed to return temperate room air to the desired humidity.
Cooling load percentages
In addition to the dry and humid cooling load, the total cooling load consists of the ventilation and panel heating/cooling portions.
The Ventilation portion consists of that part of the cooling load that is covered by a ventilation system. A ventilation system’s parameters can be set in the Cross-room load assignment dialog in the Infiltration tab.
The Panel heating/cooling portion consists of the portion of the cooling load that is covered by panel cooling (or heating for the heating case). A panel heating unit is in or on the enveloping surfaces of a room; it acts as a radiator and is therefore subject to a time delay. Through the delayed heat exchange from the walls with the air in the room, an increased cooling load can be generated when panel cooling is used (in comparison with a purely convective cooling load).
