Details on the “Workplaces” Section (Project Level)
Information on the Workplaces section of the Ventilation module in LINEAR Building.
In this area, you define the global default settings for determining the required air volumes for rooms in non-residential buildings based on the Workplace Directives calculation method. In this section you will also find an overview of all rooms assigned to this calculation method, including their settings. You can edit the room settings in the overview on a room-by-room and multi-room basis.

Depending on which room type is assigned to the respective room, either the Workplace Directive A4.1 or the Workplace Directive A5 is used. Workplace Directive A4.1 is used for WC rooms, changing rooms, bath and shower rooms, saunas and Turkish steam baths. The air volumes of all other room types are calculated on the basis of Workplace Directive A5. Directive-compliant default values are stored for both methods, which you can adapt as required.
Workplace Directive A4.1
When calculating the required air volumes on the basis of Workplace Directive A4.1, it must be ensured that the area-related minimum exhaust air volume flow rate required by the directive is guaranteed.
Specific Volume Flow Rate
Defines the global default setting for the specific, area-related volume flow rate of the rooms. The suggested value specified by the directive is 11 m³/(h m²).
: One click restores the default value in accordance with the guidelines.
Workplace Directive A5
When calculating the required air volumes on the basis of Workplace Directive A5, the design of the ventilation systems mainly depends on the number of people and the intensity of their physical activity. For each type of activity, default values are stored for the calculation of the required outdoor air volume flow rates, which you can adjust as you wish.
Types of Activity | Specific Volume Flow Rates |
---|---|
Specific Volume Flow Rate, Predominantly Seated | 40 m³/(h per person) |
Specific Volume Flow Rate, Predominantly Non-Seated | 60 m³/(h per person) |
Specific Volume Flow Rate Heavy Physical Work | 65 m³/(h per person) |
Furthermore, you can increase the required outdoor air volume flow rate due to additional customers and visitors and additional loads and, if necessary, reduce the total air volume flow rate by a certain percentage.
Activity: Drop-down list for defining the global default setting for the intensity of physical activity within the rooms.
Specific Volume Flow Rate, Predominantly Seated
Defines the global default setting for the specific volume flow rates for predominantly sedentary activities within the rooms.
: One click restores the default value in accordance with the guidelines.
Specific Volume Flow Rate, Predominantly Non-Seated
Defines the global default setting for the specific volume flow rates for predominantly non-sedentary activities within the rooms.
: One click restores the default value in accordance with the guidelines.
Specific Volume Flow, Heavy Physical Work
Defines the global default setting for the specific volume flow rates for heavy physical work within the rooms.
: One click restores the default value in accordance with the guidelines.
Specific Number of People Customers and Visitors
Defines the global default setting for the density of people due to customers and visitors in the rooms. This is an optional additional load that you can activate at room level and adjust as required.
: One click restores the default value in accordance with the guidelines.
Reduction of the Total Volume Flow Rate by
Defines the global default setting for a reduction in the total volume flow rates of the rooms. This is an optional function that you can activate at room level and adjust as required.
Outdoor air volume flow rates can be reduced linearly by a maximum of 50 % at outdoor temperatures between 26 and 32 °C and 0 to -12 °C.
Room Settings
This table shows all rooms to which the calculation basis Workplace Directives is assigned and allows you to edit the room settings.
By clicking you have the possibility to copy the contents of the table with or without column heading and paste it into Excel.
If you have selected individual rows or cells, you can copy the selected data with the key combinations Ctrl+C (with column heading) or Ctrl+Shift+C (without column heading) and paste it into Excel, for example.
Column | Description |
---|---|
et | Defines which rooms are edited together. Tick the rows of the rooms that you want to edit together and then change the desired parameters for one of the rooms. Clicking on the column header et activates or deactivates all rows. |
Location | Shows the name and location of the room in the Building Structure. You can change the name if required. |
Room Area | Displays the area of the room defined by the internal dimensions. |
Room Volume | Displays the volume of the room defined by the internal dimensions. |
A4.1 Vspec | Determines the specific, area-related volume flow rate for rooms that are calculated in accordance with Workplace Directive A4.1. |
A5 Activity | Determines the intensity of physical activity in rooms calculated in accordance with Workplace Directive A.5. |
A5 Vspec | Determines the specific, person-related volume flow rate in rooms that are calculated in accordance with Workplace Directive A5. |
A5 Qty. Pers. | Defines the number of people in rooms calculated in accordance with Workplace Directive A5. Values originating from the CAD program and changed values are shown in bold. If another calculation method with reference values for the number of persons is selected, the reference value of the other calculation method is applied by removing the number of persons, as no reference values for the number of persons are calculated as part of the workplace directive. |
A5 A | Determines whether additional customers and visitors are taken into account in rooms that are calculated according to Workplace Directive A5. Tick the rows of the rooms in which this additional load is to be taken into account. |
A5 Aud. spec | Determines the density of people due to customers and visitors in rooms that are calculated in accordance with Workplace Directive A5 and in which customers and visitors are taken into account. |
A5 L | Determines whether additional loads in rooms calculated in accordance with Workplace Directive A5 are taken into account. Additional loads can be, for example, intensive odor deterioration or high heat loads. Tick the rows of the rooms in which these additional loads are to be taken into account. |
A5 Vspec_Load | Determines the volume flow rate required due to additional loads in rooms that are calculated in accordance with Workplace Directive A5 and in which additional loads are taken into account. The suggested value is 20 m³/(h per person), which according to the guideline corresponds to the additional volume flow rate required for intensive odor deterioration. |
A5 R | Determines whether a percentage reduction of the total volume flow rate is taken into account in rooms that are calculated according to Workplace Directive A5. Tick the rows of the rooms whose total volume flow rate is to be reduced. |
A5 Red. Total Air Volume Flow Rate | Defines the percentage reduction of the total volume flow rate in rooms that are calculated according to the Workplace Directive A5 and in which a reduction of the total volume flow rate is taken into account. Note: The outdoor air volume flow rates can be reduced linearly by a maximum of 50 % at outdoor temperatures above 26 °C to 32 °C and below 0 °C to -12 °C. |
Vges | Displays the required total volume flow rate of the room. This value is transferred to the Air Volumes area as the result of the air volume determination. |
