About Internal Loads

Explains the concept of internal loads.

Internal loads are sources of heat or moisture which reduce or increase the amount of energy needed to reach nominal temperatures. The following internal loads can be listed and considered:

People, Lighting, Machines and Equipment

Regardless of the degree of their activity, people generate heat, which must be taken into account in the cooling load calculation. People give off moisture, which also has an influence on the capacity required of the heating or cooling system. In addition, regardless of the intensity of operation, the duration of operation and the type of technology used, lighting, machines and equipment introduce heat or cold, which must be taken into account in the cooling load calculation.

Infiltration, Material Throughput

Depending on the temperature of the air that enters the room via infiltration, or the temperature of other substances making ingress (material throughput), the inputs can also influence the cooling load positively, i.e. act as a coolant.
