About the Calculation Method “DIN EN 16798-1 Air Pollution, Procedure 2”

Explains the concept of determining the required air volumes for rooms in non-residential buildings based on the calculation method DIN EN 16798-1 Air Pollution, Procedure 2.

This calculation method is used for the planning and design of ventilation and HVAC systems in

  • rooms of buildings with residential units with an area of more than 250 m² per unit,
  • work and meeting rooms in administrative and office buildings and
  • rooms in similar areas of use in non-residential buildings.

used.

In this procedure, the required air volumes are determined taking into account limit values for gas and, if applicable, particulate matter concentrations. For this purpose, the air volumes are determined using a mass balance equation for substance concentration in the room, taking into account the substance concentration in the outside air. This procedure therefore requires precise knowledge of the pollutant emissions and the material load levels of the individual rooms in order to ensure standard-compliant dimensioning based on the determined air volumes. Apart from the obligatory CO2 contamination, you can include any number of other contamination concentrations from other gases or particulate matter in the calculation.
