About the Calculation Method “DIN EN 16798-1 Air Pollution, Procedure 1”

Explains the concept of determining the required air volumes for rooms in non-residential buildings based on the calculation method DIN EN 16798-1 Air Pollution, Procedure 1.

This calculation method is used for the planning and design of ventilation and HVAC systems in

  • rooms of buildings with residential units with an area of more than 250 m² per unit,
  • work and meeting rooms in administrative and office buildings and
  • rooms in similar areas of use in non-residential buildings.

used.

This procedure is based on the perceived air quality in the rooms. The air volumes determined for the design result from the sum of two components (material loads):

  • The air volumes required to remove or dilute the contaminants (biological vapors) caused by the users.
  • The air volumes required to remove or dilute the contamination caused by the building and its systems.

The amount of air required depends on the desired indoor air quality, the number of people and the pollutant load of the building. You can select different levels for the indoor air quality and the pollutant load of the building.
