Update Building Structure from a CAD Program

Shows step-by-step how to update the building structure of an existing building with new data from the CAD program.

Before you begin

You already have a building in LINEAR Building and want to transfer changes in the CAD program to LINEAR Building.

Requirements:

  • You have opened either Revit, AutoCAD or CADinside with the building to be detected.
  • A connection to the CAD program has been established.
  • The synchronization settings in the configuration of LINEAR Building are set according to the requirements of your project.

Navigate to:

LINEAR BuildingToolbar

Toolbar in LINEAR Building

Procedure

  1. Click on Update .
    The following context menu opens:
Menu with the Update Options in LINEAR Building
Tip: To update only certain structure levels, e.g. a room or a floor, select the desired structure level in the Building Structure and click again on to display the corresponding option in the menu.
  2. Specify whether the building structure should be updated with or without enveloping surfaces from the CAD program by activating the respective option.
The option Update Building Structure without Enveloping Surfaces is only available if the building was detected without enveloping surfaces. After an update with the Update Building Structure with Enveloping Surfaces option, the Update Building Structure without Enveloping Surfaces option is no longer available.
  3. If necessary, select the synchronization settings to be used or adjust the synchronization settings via Configure Synchronization ....
  4. Click on Start ....
The building structure is updated according to the selected options with or without enveloping surfaces and taking into account the synchronization settings.
Note: Components changed in the CAD program are recreated by LINEAR Building during the update. U-values are not overwritten, but all other data are.

Results

Your project in LINEAR Building is updated and corresponds to the status of the CAD program.
