About the Zoning

Explains the zoning concept in relation to the heat load calculation according to SP 60.13330.2016.

Zoning is required by standard for all ground-adjoining walls and floors. At distances of two meters the components adjoining the ground are assigned to zones I to IV. Zone I adjoins the ground surface, and zone IV is the innermost test surface, which has a distance of more than six meters to the ground surface along the components adjoining the ground. With increasing number of the zone, a greater insulating effect is assumed to consider a non-uniform distribution of temperature in the ground. If a layer construction is available for a component adjoining the ground, an R-value is determined from the zone and the lambda value of the insulation according to standard. The determined R-value together with the U-value of the component result in the total U-value U(o). If no layer construction is available for the component adjoining the ground, an error is issued and the numerical U-value is used. You can deactivate the error message in the heat load options.
