Create and Export a Room Book

Shows step-by-step how to create a room book from your drawing and export it to a *.xlsx data format.

Before you begin

You want to create a room book and export it to a *.xlsx data format to edit it in Microsoft Excel, for example.

Requirement:

Your project contains rooms that are visible in the current view.

Navigate to:

Labeling and Output tabExportComponent lists ...

or

Labeling and Output tabLabel drawingComponent lists ...

Dialog component lists in the LINEAR Solutions for Autodesk AutoCAD

Procedure

  1. In the area Component classes, expand the component class group Building and tick the checkbox Room label.

In the Parameters section, all parameters of the room label are displayed in different groups.

  2. In the area Parameter, select parameters that enable unique identification of the rooms, for example ATT_RNR for the room number or ATT_RNAME for the room name.
If necessary, use the search function of the section to find parameters quickly.
In the lower window of the dialog, a component list appears with the room labels as well as the values of the selected parameters.
Note: You can use the commands of the column context menus in the component list to make changes to the order and the names of the parameters. In addition, you can use the command New parameter to create user defined parameters.
  3. Optional: Add other desired parameters to the room book, for example ATT_RCOOLLOAD+, ATT_RHEATLOAD+ or storey.
  4. Click Export ..., specify the location and file name of the room book in the dialog that appears, and click Save.
    The following message appears:
  5. Select Yes, add “Data exchange ID” to enable a convenient import of the room book later.

Results

The room book has been created in *.xslx format and opened for editing in Microsoft Excel. The IDs of the parameters that are used in labels, for example, are output in the first row of the Excel table. The values of the respective parameters start from the second row.

What to do next

You can now edit the room book and then import it again using the Import ... button.
Tip: You can add user defined parameters in Excel by adding and naming new columns. Enter the desired name for the parameter in the first row of the added column. The parameter values are entered from the second row onwards. Make sure that there is no empty column in the table. Otherwise, columns with content after an empty column are not considered during import.
