Adding Custom Parameters to Component Classes

Shows step-by-step how to add new parameters to the components of a selected component class.

Before you begin

You want to add new parameters to the component of a selected component class.

Requirement:

The components to which you want to add your own parameters are in your drawing and are visible in the current view.

Navigate to:

Labeling and Output tabExportComponent lists ...

or

Labeling and Output tabLabel drawingComponent lists ...

Dialog component lists in the LINEAR Solutions for Autodesk AutoCAD

Procedure

  1. In the area Component classes, enable the checkboxes of the component classes to which you want to add the new parameter. The parameter is added to all components pertaining to the component class.
If necessary, use the search function of the section to find component classes quickly.
Tip: If you want to edit only certain component classes, you can preselect the corresponding components in the drawing before opening the dialog.
  2. Click on New parameter ....
    The following dialog opens:
Dialog Set parameters in the LINEAR Solutions for Autodesk AutoCAD
  3. In the dialog Set parameters, enter the name for the parameter and, if necessary, use the three-dot button Three-dot-button in the LINEAR Solutions for Autodesk AutoCAD to specify the unit to be used for the parameter.
  4. Specify whether you want to assign the values of the parameter per component or whether you want to assign a value for all components of the component class and confirm with OK.
A column with the name of the new parameter is displayed in the lower window of the dialog. Each row represents one component of the selected component class.
Note: Newly created parameters to which no values have yet been assigned are deleted when the parameter management is reset. If new parameters have already been assigned values, these parameters are not removed when resetting, as the parameter values have already been saved on the components.
  5. Click in the cells of the new parameter and enter the desired parameter values.
Tip: For example, activate the parameters Number (component) or Room number to uniquely identify components when assigning values. Alternatively, you can also use the Show components command.

Results

You have added a new parameter to components. The added parameters can be found in the Parameters section under the Product information.

Tip:

To create and assign values to parameters, you can also export the component lists to Excel, edit them and then import them again with new parameters and values.

You can add user defined parameters in Excel by adding new columns. Enter the ID of the new parameter in the first row of a new column. The second row is used for the name of the parameter during export. However, it is not relevant for the import and can remain empty. The parameter values must start in the third row. Make sure that there is no empty column within the table, otherwise columns with content behind the empty column will not be re-imported. During import, these new parameters are transferred to the components with their values.
