Creating MEP spaces in the model is not possible

Problem

You have linked an architectural model with your model. Then you want to create MEP spaces in the rooms, but you do not get a correct result or you get error messages.

Possible cause: deactivated room bounding

In models with linked architecture, the most common reason is that the Room bounding is not enabled.

Solution

Make sure that the Room bounding is enabled for the linked model and the components inside it.

Procedure

  1. In the Project tab, select any floor plan of the model and open it. It does not matter to which trade the floor plan is assigned.
  2. Click into the model to select it.
  3. Click Edit Type on the left side of Revit's Properties palette to open the Type Properties dialog.
  4. Activate the option Room bounding.

Possible cause: Room size

If you have problems in a local architecture, even though the Room bounding property is enabled for the bounding components, the room may be too narrow to contain a MEP space (so called “silver spaces"). Particularly in the case of shafts, it can happen that the adjacent interior walls are recognized as exterior walls during detection. Very small rooms can also be affected by this, as they are also detected as shafts due to their size. As a result, the walls of the adjacent MEP spaces are detected as exterior walls.

Solution

You can change the respective walls to interior walls in LINEAR Building using the Search & Replace function.

Procedure

  1. In LINEAR Building, select the room in the building structure.
  2. Open the Search & Replace function via the button .
  3. In the column Filter of the dialog, set the filter for the desired parameter, e.g. component type or U-value. You can set additional filters in the lines below to narrow down the search.
  4. In the Value column, specify the value for the search. As soon as you set a value, all components with these values will be listed at the bottom of the dialog.
  5. Check the displayed components and confirm with Replace values.
