Details on Calculation Presettings in the Settings Potable Water

Information about the section Calculation parameters in the Settings dialog of potable water pipe network calculation.

In this section, global settings for calculation and dimensioning, calculation method and limit values can be made. The settings are saved with the project.

You are here:

Calculation basis

Select the calculation method to be used for calculation. Depending on the selected calculation method, some parameters might possibly change or not be available. The following calculation bases are available for selection:

  • DIN 1988-3

  • DIN 1988-300/EN806

  • Vewin Werkbladen 2.1

  • SVGW W3

  • SP 30.13330. 2016 and SP 30.13330. 2020

  • ÖNORM B 2531 2531

  • PN 92 / B-1706

Type of building

Available building types depend on the selected calculation basis. Select the building type to be used when determining peak flow rates within the network. This global setting can over the course of the calculation be manually changed for particular sections of the network.

For DIN 1988-300/EN 806, DIN1988-3 and ÖNorm B 2531:

If you selected Special building, the network will be calculated using simultaneities. The default setting for all section parts is 100% simultaneity, which you can then set manually using the Peak flow rate ... button.

For SP 30.13330.2016 and SP 30.13330.2020:

Some building types do not consider hot water pipes.. If hot water pipes have been constructed anyway, an error message is issued in the report.

For each building type, calculation flow rates are stored, which can be displayed as information via the upper button . If you select Special building (user values) as the building type, you can use the upper button to create the corresponding consumption values for this building by yourself. The lower button opens the Manage user-defined building types dialog, where you can create and manage any number of user-defined building types. These data are saved in a separate file and are available in all other projects.

For PN 92 / B-1706:

Peak flow rates are stored for the predefined building types that you can select from the drop-down list. The button allows you to create and manage any number of user-defined building types specifying the coefficients for calculating the peak flow rate according to the specified standard. The buildings created there can then be selected in the Settings dialog via the drop-down list.

Global usage

If you select the calculation method DIN 1988-300/EN 806 or ÖNorm B 2531, the drop-down list Global usage appears under the building list, where you select the comfort level that is valid for the entire project. The selection of the comfort level is required for the determination of the ejection times according to VDI 6003.

Pressure loss calculation acc. to

Displays the calculation basis for pressure loss calculation. Depending on the selected calculation method a different calculation basis can be selected for the pressure loss calculation.

Temperatures

define: Opens the Temperature definition dialog where you can adjust the potable water temperature (cold) and the global ambient temperatures for hot and cold water sections.

Minimum flow pressure tolerance

Due to dimensioning during calculation, the network is throttled in such a way that minimum flow pressure is just about reached for all discharge valves. If you want to permit narrow undershoot of minimum flow pressure for selected discharge valves, enter a maximum value for the undershoot here.

Maximum Static Pressure

The value is preset to 5000 hPa and can be adjusted if necessary.

When exceeding the maximum static pressure, a message is issued in the report for sound protection reasons.

Maximum Volume of Hot Water without Circulation

Enter a limit value for the maximum volume of hot water pipes outside the circulation circuit. If during the calculation a larger volume is detected, a warning will be issued in the report.

Maximum Volume of Col Water for Single Connector Pipes

Enter a limit value for the maximum volume for cold water single connector pipes that connect consumer to the pipe network. If during the calculation a larger volume is detected, a warning will be issued in the report.

Estimated Portion for Fittings and Joining Pieces

Enter a percentage for the portion of fittings and joining pieces you want to be considered during calculation.

Always dimension decreasingly

Enabled: A section part will always be either as large or smaller than the one preceding it (in direction of the tapping point).

Disabled: It may happen, that, during throttling the network by dimensioning pipes, a section part further away from the network starting point is dimensioned larger than the one preceding it.

Consider Internal Water Circulation

Enabled: Inliner circulating pipe is considered during dimensioning.

Dimensioning of closed circular pipe

Enabled: When dimensioning closed circular pipes, circular pipe closures are taken into account.

Consider flow type

This command is enabled if a flow divider is found in the potable water pipe network during the calculation.

Enabled: When dimensioning the closed circular pipe, a turbulent flow through is aimed at, in order to ensure hygienic operation. If, after dimensioning in the closed circular pipe, the nominal diameter is larger than the connection dimension of the flow divider, a corresponding message is displayed.

Disabled: When dimensioning the closed circular pipe, a turbulent flow through is not considered. An error message is displayed in the calculation if a closed circular pipe is flushed laminarly and thus hygienic requirements are not met. In such cases, turbulent flow can be achieved by manually adjusting the nominal diameters of the closed circular pipe.

Consider Usage Units

Enabled: Usage units that have been assigned to consumers in Usage units are considered during dimensioning.

Disabled: If you created usage units, you can exclude them from calculation without losing the assignment. You can compare calculation results with and without usage units. If you have created and assigned a usage unit but deactivated the checkbox Consider Usage Units, a note will be issued in the report. Calculation will be performed based on simultaneity curves in this case.

Note:

As part of the calculation bases SSP 30.13330.2016 and SP 30.13330.2020, it is necessary to define usage units in order to determine the number of users.

Zeta Values

Enabled: If you use manufacturer pipe systems containing real, measured zeta values provided by the manufacturer, they will be used for calculation. If manufacturer zeta values are not available, norm zeta values are used.

Disabled: Norm zeta values are used during calculation regardless of the pipe system.
